9:38 Ministry Trainees at St Peter’s Church, Harold Wood, 2017-18
About the Role
We are an evangelical church of about 400 adults and 100 children spread across all ages and stages of life. The congregation represent a good cross section of the local community.
Harold Wood is 30 minutes by train from Liverpool Street station and five minutes from Junction 28 of the M25.
Our mission statement calls us to:
- Reach the lost with the gospel of God
- Tend the flock in the love of God
- Teach disciples from the word of God
- Send out workers into the service of God
The church is led by David Banting. His colleagues on the staff team normally include two associate ministers, curate, youth assistant, an apprentice or two and office staff.
We are looking to appoint one or two ministry trainees to join the team from September 2017. We are deeply committed to helping individuals lay down foundations for a lifetime of serving Christ.
Our ministry trainee scheme at St Peter’s helps individuals grow in character. We want to produce disciples who take the initiative in serving others. Practical jobs such as washing up, child-minding, chair moving, photocopying are all vital parts of the training.
We also want to train ministry trainees to grow in convictions. They spend one day per week in Cambridge training on The East Anglia Ministry training course (TEAM), where they are taught biblical studies, doctrine, bible-handling tools and practical ministry skills. To support this, ministry trainees meet regularly with senior staff members for guided reading and discussion.
Additionally, we place great emphasis on developing competence. St Peter’s is a great place in which to develop a teaching ministry. We tailor the training for each individual, with many opportunities particularly available in working with youth and children, the elderly, and in 1-2-1 discipleship.
Ministry trainees come to us with a wide range of backgrounds and experience, though most come straight after attending university. Many of our past ministry trainees are now serving in full-time paid gospel ministry.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for young men or women who: love Christ; are willing to work hard and responsibly; are committed to the Bible as God’s Word to be both obeyed personally and taught to others; are growing in maturity; and, ideally, have shown some ability in Bible-teaching in small groups or 1-2-1.
Appointments are subject to enhanced DBS checks.
The church is keen to give ministry trainees sufficient financial support. Full board and lodging is provided with members of the church family. There is an additional monthly allowance plus all working expenses. Additionally, money can be found for books, travel and other costs such as conferences.
What do I do next?
If you are interested, please initially contact the curate, Jonnie Deja, via firstname.lastname@example.org, who is happy to answer any questions you may have.
If in due course you decide you would like to apply we would then request a C.V. and contact details for two referees.
We hope to hear from you.
