A Life's Work 2009

We were spurred on to live our whole lives for Christ whether we end up as painters, paediatricians or pastors on the Student Conference in December. The focus of the conference, with main teaching from Ian Garrett (Jesmond Parish Church, Newcastle), was to have the gospel as the priority in our lives in whatever we do for a job, and then with a particular focus on going into full-time gospel ministry.

We were encouraged to get into good habits now, as good preparation for serving the Lord for the rest of our lives. The small groups were appreciated by the students as they got to spend time with those already in full-time gospel ministry, to gain from their experience and wisdom.

The talks from the conference will soon be available to download for free. If you are an undergraduate and think that full-time gospel ministry might be (even a slight) possibility, chat to your student worker or church leader about coming on the conference in 2010. It is well worth coming!

Only One Life 2009

We had a fantastic weekend away at the beginning of November. Over 50 people joined together to consider whether full-time gospel ministry might be for them. Vaughan Roberts opened the conference from 1 Corinthians, which set the tone for the weekend - an unpressured but sober look at what full-time gospel ministry is like, and who should do it.

Peter Comont (Magdalen Road Church, Oxford) lifted our eyes to our majestic Lord, and the privilege of being his servant in an overview of Isaiah, before Mark O'Donoghue gave us the nuts and bolts of the questions to ask ourselves when considering this question. You will soon be able to download the talks for free.

There was a wide range of people on the conference - from a handful who had never seriously considered full-time gospel ministry before, to one man who had a job lined up to started in January and just wanted to cement it in in his mind; and everyone in between.

The highlight for many of those on the conference was being able to chat to those currently in full-time gospel ministry, over a meal or a coffee break and hear how they ended up doing what they are doing.

Please pray for these young 'workers', that they would spend their lives serving the Lord Jesus whatever they end up doing, and that the Lord would raise some up to do harvesting full-time.

New website!

Welcome to the new 9:38 website! It's been a long time coming, with the old site serving us for many many years, but here it is! The website aims to serve our purposes of serving the local church. Apprenticeships around the country will soon be searchable by type of ministry, location, size of church and other factors. Audio downloads will soon be freely available - all the best talks from the conferences from over the years will be accessible. And the site will be kept up to date, with regularly changing content. There will also be more resources available to churches wishing to set up apprenticeship schemes and resources to help in running a scheme. These will appear during 2009/2010.

A question of calling?

Are we to expect a ‘call' into the ministry? Hear Don Carson's answer to that question here! He was asked in a question time at New Word Alive earlier this year.
