What happened at this year's Ministry Trainee Conference
Nine Thirty Eight
113 ministry trainees and church leaders enjoyed going away together at the start of January. We learnt from Richard Coekin and Nigel Styles on the theme of prayer. The trainees were encouraged and challenged in their personal faith and in their ministry. The trainees were also placed in small prayer groups where they had to give a short talk that a church leader and other trainees gave feedback on. We're glad that the conference was so beneficial for those who came.
We'd love to see even more ministry trainees come next year to be built up and trained as they serve in gospel ministry. Please consider sending ministry trainees from your church next year.
Read some of the glowing feedback from Trainees who came this year:
I genuinely think the whole conference worked really well. I felt there was a good amount of teaching up front, mixed with small group time, time to pray and social time to get to know other people. I really felt that the whole thing was excellent. Thank you very much, it was a very uplifting time! :)
I really enjoyed the teaching and praying in pairs after the talks. Also the small groups time gives us opportunities to talk about what we’ve learned from the talks and encourage each other. I also really enjoy having the same group praying and doing the practice talks together, because it gives us time to get to know each other a bit better.
Nigel Styles' moustache! But seriously; older, wiser Christians being honest and helpful.
Loved time chatting and getting to know other Trainees and be encouraged by them. Having own room was quality too!
The clarity of the talks, and how we didn't try and rush through lots of different passages but worked carefully through the Lord's Prayer.
This was my first time at the conference and I thought I would be quite old, compared to many of
the other trainees. I was, but this did not matter. It was also very helpful for me to ask the female group leaders lots of ministry questions.
The conference as a whole felt like it was pitched right - not at students or young people but at MTs who might seriously be considering full-time paid gospel ministry in the future.
I enjoyed all of it. The teaching up front was so helpful and a good level of challenging that helped me to go home with a real desire to change certain things about my prayer life …without those challenges seeming too hard to reach.
Good balance of time between social time and learning.
The prayer groups were really helpful for praying in what we'd learnt and pulling out specific applications. Loved the depth of teaching and focus on specific topic. The practicality of the conference was really encouraging and helpful to take back to congregations and small groups.
Really enjoyed the teaching - it was really challenging and applicable. The time spent in smaller groups was also really helpful, particularly receiving feedback on talks.
Really enjoyed sharing and praying in small groups and getting to meet so many others who are serving in the same way in their churches. So helpful to have the Q&A, would happily have sat through another half an hour of questions if not more!
Small groups, biblical and clear talk, time to sing and worship together.
I really enjoyed the small group sessions as well as getting to know new people and catch up with some I met last year.
