Distance learning

Distance learning courses are especially suitable for those who are unable to take large amounts of time off to go to a training centre, such as a ministry training course or theological college. Working at their own pace students can do short one-off courses, go through a series of modules or work towards a recognised qualification. We recommend the Open Bible Institute which incorporates the following types of courses:

Short Courses

Stand alone courses for those who are new to studying or who want to dip their toe into a specific topic. Fees are £15-35 per course. Topics include:

  • Administration
  • Pastoral Care
  • Preaching
  • Christian Mission and Ministry

Moore College Correspondence Course

The well-known distance learning course in biblical studies and theology. Students can do individual modules or a whole course. Subjects include:

  • Introduction to the Bible
  • Studies in the New Testament
  • Studies in the Old Testament
  • Doctrine
  • Various Bible books (Romans, Ephesians, the Gospels, 1, 2 and 3 John)
  • Church History (Reformation, early church)
  • Ethics and Apologetics

Certificated Courses

For those with some leadership responsibility or those who want to study for a formal academic qualification. Each module requires approximately 10-12 hours of study per week and is assessed via a range of methods including essays, exams and book reviews. Each module costs £95 (plus a registration fee of £370 payable to Middlesex University). Subjects include:

  • Theology and Biblical Studies
  • Biblical Studies and Ministry
