Preaching Opportunities / Youth Ministry / Music / Children's Ministry
An opportunity to spend a year as a Ministry Apprentice in a Christ-centred, friendly, supportive, busy, diverse church. Lots of ministry areas to explore and try out to see how God wants to grow you and what He wants to do with your life.
About Kensington Baptist Church
It is hard to imagine a church with a wider range of opportunities for ministry than Kensington! We are a fairly large, independent evangelical church committed to the centrality of God’s Word. Our building (where you would be based) is located in Easton in inner city Bristol. Here we are surrounded by people from a multitude of cultures and backgrounds, including some where the gospel has never penetrated. Our passion is to set that right! And we have a vision for the wider world, supporting workers in four continents.
On Sunday mornings we meet in three congregations in quite different locations – in Easton, in Emersons Green (Village Church) and in the City Centre (BC3). Each of these has its own distinctive character. Then we meet back together on Sunday nights. However, at the moment we are in the process of transition to three separate churches. Thus this is a particularly exciting time for the Easton congregation, where you would be based, as it opens up new opportunities.
We have a full range of children’s and youth ministries at weekends and during the week our building never seems to be quiet! We run a parent/carer toddler group three times a week, a Senior Citizens’ Day Centre, a women’s Bible Study, a coffee morning for women and a “free shop” for the needier families and individuals in the congregation and beyond. Add in evangelistic courses, Homegroups, a puppet team, opportunities to help the homeless, not to mention Sunday ministries – there is immense scope for service and developing your gifts.
About the Role
The scheme is for young men or women who are open to the Lord’s leading and want to gain ministry experience. We are looking to recruit one or two apprentices for the year September 2019 August 2020, with a possibility of continuing for a second year.
You would be part of a small team with your time split between three areas – training and study, ministry and practical service. Be prepared for a busy week!
Training would involve attendance at the South-West Gospel Partnership’s ministry training course in nearby Bath once a week on a Thursday, as well as individual mentoring and guided study. The goal is to encourage all-round spiritual formation.
The range of ministries is exciting (see above!) and we would provide opportunities to specialise as the year progresses. If you felt called or gifted in a particular direction, we would explore that with you. And we would also be exploring what the Lord’s further plans may be – this scheme is just one step, after all.
Practical service involves helping to facilitate the church’s many ministries throughout the week. It would include some setting up for activities, cleaning and office work, as well as welcoming visitors to our building.
This is a training scheme and you would not be earning a salary! However, you would be provided with accommodation and a training bursary, along with ministry expenses. You would need to find or pray in any other costs, although most Apprentices find they can live day-to-day on the bursary.
